Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Promotional pricing mechanics, compound discounts, and statutory IRD invoice rules in Nepal.
Stacked discounts apply sequentially rather than additively. For example, 20% off plus an additional 10% card discount does NOT equal 30% off. On a Rs. 1,000 item, the 20% discount reduces the price to Rs. 800. The additional 10% discount is applied to Rs. 800 (reducing it by Rs. 80) to reach Rs. 720. The real effective discount is 28%, not 30%.
In a 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' promotion of equal-priced items, you receive 3 items for the price of 2. The effective discount is 1 ÷ 3 = 33.33% off each individual item.
Under Section 12 of the Nepal VAT Act 2052, VAT is assessed strictly on the NET taxable value after trade discounts have been deducted, provided the discount is clearly shown on the VAT invoice.
