Line Balancing Tip: For 3-thread and 4-thread overlock operations, ensure your purchase order contains at least 3 to 4 cones of the same dye lot to thread loopers and needles simultaneously without line stoppage.

ISO Stitch Thread Multiplier Standards

International textile standard thread consumption ratios per 1 meter of finished seam

ISO 4915 Standards
ISO Code Stitch Type Thread Multiplier Ratio Primary Apparel Application
301 Single Needle Lockstitch 2.5× Seam Length Collar topstitching, front plackets, hems
401 Two-Thread Chainstitch 5.5× Seam Length Trouser side seams, waistband attachments
504 3-Thread Overlock (Serger) 14.0× Seam Length Raw edge serging, woven panel finishing
514 4-Thread Mock Safety Stitch 18.0× Seam Length Knit T-shirt side seams, activewear construction

Track Sewing Threads, Buttons & Trims per Garment Order

Stop line stalls caused by missing thread cones. ByaparOS tracks raw material inventories by thread shade number, zipper length, and button gross units with automated minimum reorder triggers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Industrial sewing thread calculations, cone sizes, and waste ratios

Formula: Total Thread Meters = [ Seam Length in Meters × Stitch Type Ratio ] × [ 1 + (Waste Allowance % ÷ 100) ]. For a 10m lockstitch seam with a 2.5x ratio and 10% waste, thread required is (10 × 2.5) × 1.10 = 27.5 meters.
A 3-thread overlock (ISO 504) uses two looper threads that criss-cross around the raw fabric edge, requiring approximately 14 meters of thread per meter of seam, whereas a lockstitch (ISO 301) requires only 2.5 meters.
Spun polyester sewing thread (40/2 or 20/2 count) is typically sold in 1,000-meter spools for tailoring shops and 5,000-meter industrial cones for export factories and rotary production lines.
A standard 10% to 15% wastage allowance is recommended to cover machine startup tails, bobbin thread leftovers, and tension adjustments.
ByaparOS Bill of Materials (BOM) tracks thread by shade color code, lot number, and cone balance, preventing line stoppages caused by running out of matching thread midway through a production order.
